November 3rd, 2011Choice Time Activities
If a student finishes a project early, I keep several “choice time” options available for them to choose from to keep themselves busy. I found these AWESOME geometric shape wooden puzzles at Michael’s in the dollar bin! I took pictures of the completed puzzles and labeled all the pieces so we can keep it organized. Choice time success on a budget!

November 1st, 20117th Grade, Fiber Arts
Students enjoyed covering rope coil with yarn to create a small bowl. The hardest part about this project is the beginning coil in the middle of the bowl, but once you get that down, this project gets a lot easier.

More pop-up mania in the art room! We used the “v fold” to create a mouth.
Directions for the v fold can be found here.
This lesson plan is great year round because it’s super flexible. Students can make all of the same creature, or design their own. Also, students can write on the outside of the card, making it easy to use this as a reading in the content field tool. Can you imagine the stories these creatures could tell?

October 31st, 20112nd Grade, Elementary
2nd graders had a blast learning to make pop-up pumpkins! We even learned that if you fold your paper the long ways (or hotdog, as we say in the art room) that you can make several folds for pop-ups, creating an entire pop-up pumpkin patch! Happy fall!
